Surfing has traditionally been a male dominated sport, happily this has changed and now females can be seen across the world enjoying the waves for recreation and also in professional competition. The Kiribati Surfing Association sees this healthy and active pursuit as a perfect vehicle to empower women and will hold specific learn to surf events for girls.
Proposed Activities by KSA for 2011:
- Include a female representative on the Executive Committee to promote and encourage the participation of females in KSA activities and surfing as a competitive sport;
- Monitor the progress and participation of females in KSA activities and overcome any barriers, if any, that prevent female participation.
